7 Days Fantastic Educational Tour in Yunnan starts in Kunming, take the train to Lijiang, then to Zhongdian or say Shangri-La. DAY 01 Arrive in Kunming (D, by flight)
Activities: Try the "Crossing-over bridge rice noodles"
Arrive in Kunming Airport and be picked up by the tour guide. Enjoy a delicious welcome dinner, local "Crossing-over bridge rice noodles". Then transfer to the hotel and have a rest.
Yunnan Famous Crossing Bridge Rice Noodle: It is one of the most well-known dishes in Yunnan cuisine. The dish is served with a large bowl of boiling hot broth and the soup ingredients. These ingredients are separated. The soup ingredients are served on a cutting board or plate and include raw vegetables and lightly cooked meats. Common ingredients include thin slices of turkey, chunks of chicken, chicken skin, strips of bean curd sheets, chives, sprouts and rice noodles. Once added into the broth, it cooks quickly with a layer of schmaltz and oil glistening on top. The soup takes a few minutes to cook, and it is then spooned out into small bowls.

DAY 02 Kunming / Take the train to Lijiang (BLD, by train)
Activities: Stone Forest Park, Kunming City Tour
After breakfast, enjoy the Stone Forest Excursion. Through the maze of enormous stone pillars, be amazed by the beautiful views of all the most typical karst stone forest landforms in just one place. As the "First Wonder of the World", this typical Stone Karst Geopark, consists of 80 hectares of innumerable bizarre-shaped ancient limestone cliffs and peaks created by wind and water erosion some 270 million years ago.
In the afternoon, go for the city tour including Yuan Tong Temple. The temple, seated at the southern foot of Luofeng Shan (Luofeng hill), was built in Tang dynasty with a history of over 1,000 years. It is the biggest temple in Kunming and is famed for its grand architecture and design.
In the evening, take an overnight train to Lijiang (hard sleeper).

DAY 03 Lijiang Cycling Tour (BLD)
Activities: Tai Chi Class, Cycling, Dongba culture lecture
Arrive in Lijiang in the morning, meet our experienced tour guide in the railway station and transfer to the hotel. The Lijiang Old Town, a well-preserved old city of ethnic minorities with brilliant culture, was firstly built in the late Song Dynasty and the early Yuan Dynasty. It was put in the list of the World's Relics by the World Cultural Heritage Commission of the UNESCO in 1997. We can walk down the cobblestone streets over 800 years and see the traditional way of life of the rugged mountain people of Nakhi (Naxi) Minority.
After breakfast, take a short drive to the
Black Dragon Pool Park where will learn Tai Chi with the local teacher. Here is the perfect place to take photo of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain with reflection in the Pond.
From here we will start with a breezy cycling tour on a pavement road to explore
Baisha Frescoes in the Baisha Village, where we will have the opportunity to get better acquainted with the Naxi people. If it is possible, we may attend a Dongba culture lecture at the Dongba Museum where we can taste national culture from the layout of its yard and building facilities. We will bike 30 minutes to Shuhe, which is an ancient trading post which once served a prominent role in supporting tea caravans between China and the Red Sea. It is also the former city center of Lijiang and has a history of more than 1000 years.
At the end of the day, we may choose to leave our bikes with the luggage van and drive back to the hotel by car (15 minutes) or bike back to the hotel directly (40 minutes).

DAY 04 Lijiang (BLD)
Activities: Mu`s Palace, Farm Working, Self-Cooking Course
After breakfast, transfer to visit Mu Prince Residence. Get better known of the history of Lijiang.
Before going to the next destination, buy fruit and vegetables as planned yourselves for dinner in a local market. Learn skills of communication. Then take the private bus to the Wenhai Village where you could experience the idyllic farm life, such as sheperding, feeding pigs and so on. Tonight you could learn to cook Chinese food and enjoy self-cooked meal for dinner. Then back to Lijiang.
Mu`s Palace: The Mu's Residence is the former residence of the Tusi Mu in Lijiang. Tusi is a kind of official position in Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties that leaders of minority ethnic groups were appointed hereditarily by emperors of the time. Throughout its long history, a large amount of the original buildings were damaged during the wars. Luckily, after an earthquake in 1996, the World Bank recognized the value of the Mu's Residence and made a heavy loan for its restoration. With craftsmen's careful design and construction, the Mu's Residence reappears in the world as if a phoenix reborn from the ashes.
Wenhai Village: The unique climate and soil in this area nourished a variety of vegetative covers and plant species. There are also unique wild flowers that bloom all four seasons, including over twenty species of rhododendrons. The village is also a home to a variety of economically viable mushrooms and precious medicinal herbs.

DAY 05 Lijiang / Tiger Leaping Gorge Hiking (BLD)
Activities: Yangtze River, Tiger Leaping Gorge Hiking
Drive to Tiger Leaping Gorge Town (Qiaotou Town/2h), with a panoramic view of the First Bend of Yangtze River on the way. Start hiking at the Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge, and then reach the Naxi Family Guesthouse where you could have lunch(2h). Keep hiking up through the 28-Bend, which is the hardest part of this trail, and then reach the Tea Horse Guesthouse where you'd stay overnight. (3h)
Tiger Leaping Gorge: A contender for the world's deepest river canyon. Around 15 km in length, the gorge is located where the river passes between 5,596m Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and 5,396m Haba Snow Mountain in a series of rapids under steep 2000 meter cliffs. Legend says that in order to escape from a hunter, a tiger jumped across the river at the narrowest point (still 25 meters wide), hence the name, Hu Tiao Xia.

DAY 06 Tiger Leaping Gorge / Zhongdian (Shangri-La) (BLD)
Activities: Thang-ga painting, Cycling to the Songzanlin Monestary
Get up in the early morning, trekking down to Tina's Guest house passing a small but high waterfall on the way. Tina's is the best location to enjoy the scenery of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
Then drive to Shangri-la. Upon arrival in Shangri La, you will have entered the Tibetan cultural area and a landscape of barley fields and yaks scattered in the valleys. Walk around Dukezong Ancient Town, an important town of the Ancient Tea-horse Trade Caravan from Yunnan to Tibet and India. You can see the Thang-ga painting in academy. Thang-ga is a unique style of painting developed in the 7th century in the Tibetan area. Thang-ga is a Tibetan word which refers to the scroll painting mounted with colorful satins and fabrics.
Then you could jump on your bike and ride to Songzanlin Monestary, 5km north of the old town center. The Songzanlin Monestary (constructed in 1679) is the largest Tibetan Monestary in Yunnan and is nicknamed the "Lesser Potala" due to its resemblance to the magnificent structure in Lhasa. Upon returning to the hotel in the evening you'll have a delicious dinner. Have a good night!
The old town of Dukezong: at 1,300 years old, the city boasts a formidable history. Showcasing traditional and authentic Tibetan dwellings, the small town provides a snapshot of the past. Once a stop along the Ancient Tea Horse Road, the town has come a long way from its heyday as a major port of trade in the region. But the city has retained much of its ancient charm and Tibetan identity; indeed, the town maintains its layout in the shape of a lotus flower, and you're likely to stumble across a gathering of locals strumming their traditional instruments, especially in the evening.

DAY 07 Zhongdian / Kunming / Home (B, by flight)
Take an early morning flight to Kunming, then take the next flight back home.

- Most of the areas that we will be visiting is mountainous or small villages. As we'll be enjoying much of the well-protected nature we should prepare for the accommodation to be very basic.
- While our leaders will have walkie-talkies with them throughout the trip it is important to keep in mind that there will be limited coverage in the area. Some parts of our trip are quite remote making it important to behave as a team and help each other in anyway. This is a leisure trip for exploring, learning, and having fun with friends. It is not a competition.
- If the itinerary include camping, participants will cook their own meal and build their camp. All camping equipment will be carried to the camping sites by the students using professional backpacks. Please pack the necessary only (we will offer you a "What to bring list" before departure). Do not over-pack. Participants should also take the garbage down the mountain to trashcans.
- In case of unforeseen government prohibition of camping and campfire, we may not be allowed to cook outdoors. In that case, we reserve the right to alternate the itinerary with the agreement of the participants. The participants are expected to take the extra payment if there is any.
- Some outdoor activities like rafting and rock climbing can be influenced by bad weather.
- VERY IMPORTANT: When you are planning to do rock climbing and abseiling you acknowledge that there are risks involved in this sport and confirm that you are fully aware of and accept these risks. You may or may not be required to sign a separate acknowledgement and acceptance of personal liability by the local supplier before being allowed to participate in certain activities. If you are not allowed to rock climb or abseil because you refuse to sign, you will have no claim against CYTS or the supplier and will not be entitled to any refund or compensation.
- What to Wear: The weather in October is always warm at noon, cold at night and still windy in the mountain area. Wear long sleeve T-Shirts and pants that are easy to dry and are suitable for daytime trekking. Bring pants, a thick sweater, and a jacket for the cold night and early morning.
- This is a long trip. It is possible that delays can occur due to traffic or something unforeseen during the trip.
- The tour leader reserves the right to alternate the visiting order according to the weather and the fitness of the students.
- All participates will learn to take care of themselves and help each other in the outdoors. This trip requires teamwork and the ability to follow the instruction of the leader.
- Leave nothing except your footprint, take nothing except photographs. Leave no garbage. Littering is strongly prohibited.
