TRIP OVERVIEW
Yunnan, a land of natural beauty and mystery, located in the most southwest of China, has a vast territory, magnificent mountains and rivers, abundant natural resources and diverse cultures. It is known for its colorful and intriguing diversity of ethnic minority groups. With population of about 700 people, Nixi is a part of the Ancient Tea Horse Road. It has a long history of potting. Their potting skills have been carried on for nearly one thousand years. The black pottery of Nixi Village is not just traditional handicraft, it has high academic value. It enjoys great prestige in northwestern Yunnan Province and the whole Tibet area, for its unique appearance and special function for cooking (it makes the food more delicious).

DAY 01 ARRIVE LIJIANG
Welcome to Lijiang. You will meet your tour guide and driver at Lijiang airport and then transfer to hotel. Relax yourself in the hotel.

DAY 02 LIJIANG (BLD)
Pick you up from the hotel. Drive to
Lashihai Lake. You will start your horse-riding from Lashihai Lake. With an area of 5,330 hectares, Lashihai Lake is about 9.3 km long from south to north and 8.2 km wide from east to west. It is the largest lake in Lijiang County. Surrounded by the mountains, the catchment of Lashihai is about 256.6 square meters.The Rivers of Meiquan and Keluokang are merged together into Lashihai. With good quality of water, which meets water quality requirement of Grade II. It is one of the reserved drinking water sources for the city of Lijiang.
Ride to Shuhe Old Town. Shuhe Ancient Town is the best-preserved ancient town along the tea-horse road, a famous tea-trading route in ancient China. Tea-horse Road starts from Xishuangbanna City, cross Dali, Lijiang and Diqing Town, and stretches to Tibet, It spans from subtropics, temperate zone to cool temperature zone, and scrambles from the altitude of hundreds of meters to 8000-plus meters, which has become a colorful tourist line with rich cultural resources. Along with this ancient road, Shuhe Town is a sparkling pearl embed onto it. Shuhe Town was regarded as an essential component of Lijiang Old Town, the world cultural heritage subscribed in the year of 1997.
Then go on your riding to Baisha Old Town. The Baisha Ancient Village is one of the oldest towns in Lijiang City. It got its name "Baisha" meaning "white sand" from the natural white sand in the area. It was the cradle-land of the Tusi Dynasty evolved from the Mu Clan. It was also the earliest settlement of the Naxi people. There are many ancient constructions built in the Ming Dynasty: the Dabaoji Palace, the Liuli Temple and the Wenchang Palace. The well-known Baisha Frescoes are situated in the Dabaoji Palace.

DAY 03 LIJIANG - THE JADE DRAGON SNOW MOUNTAIN - LIJIANG (BLD)
Our car will pick you up from the hotel, and drive about 30KM to Ganhaizi Meadow(3100M), you will take the sightseeing bus for a short visiting through the Baishuihe River, take the chairlift up to visit
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The cableway will be arranged according to the condition of the mountain. You will hike around 1 hours in the original forest in Spruce Meadow (3200M). Then visit
Blue Moon Valley.
After lunch, you will enjoy the
Impression Lijang Ethnic Show directed in Ganhaizi Meadow(3100M). A cultural show demonstrating the traditions and lifestyles of the Naxi, Yi and Bai peoples of the area. The show takes place inside Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Park at 3500m in an outdoor theater specifically designed to showcase the mountain which is used as a backdrop. The production itself was designed by Zhang Yimou, Fan Yue and Wang Chaoge, a cast of over 500 people, and a number of horses.
After that, drive to visit
Black Dragon Pool and Dongba Culture Museum. Then drive back to hotel.

DAY 04 LIJIANG - QIAOTOU TOWN - TIGER LEAPING GORGE - TEA & HORSE GUESTHOUSE (BLD)
This morning, you will drive about 2 hours from Lijiang to
Qiaotou Town. Start your horse-riding from Qiaotou Primary school until reached the Naxi Family Guesthouse where you'd have lunch and take a short break there. Go on your riding. On the way, you will go through the 28-Bend, which is the hardest part of this trail. Take a rest when you reached the
Tea & Horse Guesthouse where you'd stay overnight.
Tiger Leaping Gorge is on the Jinsha River of the upper reaches of the Yangtze, located 105 kilometers south of Shangrila County. The gorge is 17 kilometers long with a drop of 213 meters. Tiger Leaping Gorge is divided into three sections: Upper, Middle and Lower Hutiao. At the narrowest spot the river is only 30 meters wide. The mouth of the gorge is 1,800 meters above sea level. The river is flanked by Yulong and Haba snow mountains, with a height difference of 3,900 meters. It is one of the deepest gorges in the world.

DAY 05 TEA&HORSE GUESTHOUSE - HALFWAY GUESTHOUSE - TINA'S GUESTHOUSE - SHAXI OLD TOWN (BLD)
Today, you will trek through the flat trail, till reach the
Halfway Guesthouse (about 2,500m/3hrs)
Keep trekking, you will see
Guanyin Waterfall on the way. (1h) Finally reach the Tina's Guesthouse, where you can have lunch and enjoy the Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge. (1h). You could take a hour walking down the steep cliff to the bank of Jinsha River to the Middle Gorge (Middle Hutiao or Middle Rapids), worship the dangerous shoal of "Starriness", it is the most narrow part of the gorge, where a tiger can easily jump over the Jinsha River. Then climb up the gorge to Walnut Grove (Woody's Guesthouse) using either the Tianti or Yixiantian route. Depending on how tired, choose the one to suit on the day. So from Middle Hutiao to Walnut Grove will take 2 or 3 hours and hence the total. Then our car will pick you up and drive to
Shaxi Old Town and stay overnight there.

DAY 06 SHAXI OLD TOWN - MAPINGGUAN VILLAGE (BLD)
You will start your horse-riding from
Shaxi Old Town to Mapingguan Village(3.5 hours). After lunch in Mapingguan Village, go on your riding to Yanjing Village(3.5 hours)-A old village which produces salt. You will finish today's horse-riding. Then our car will pick you up to Shaxi Old Town.

DAY 07 SHAXI - DALI (BLD)
This morning, drive to Shibaoshan mountain .The most prominent sight at
ShibaoShan is the Stone Bell Temple with its 139, well preserved stone carvings. These magnificent stone carvings date as far back as 1300 years to the once powerful Nanzhao Kingdom during the Tang Dynasty (618-907).Explore the ancient temple complex including Baoxiang Temple, Haiyun Temple, Shizhong Temple and the Ancient Grottoes. If you are lucky enough, you also can see a lot of wild monkey group around Baoxiang Temple.
Then drive to Dali. Visit the
Dali Old Town, walk around the Foreigner Street and enjoy the relax time with local people. After climbing up to the City Wall of Dali, you will have panoramic view of the Erhai Lake.

DAY 08 DALI - HOME (BL)
This morning, you will head for
Xizhou Town to fully appreciate Bai-style traditional architectural courtyards, taste their fragrant Three-Course Tea and explore their distinctive culture. Visit
Zhoucheng Village and the Bai people's Tie-dying cloth workshop where you can take some special souvenir with the Bai ethnic style. After lunch, visit the
Three Pagodas in Chongshen Monastery which has a history of over 1,800 years located at the foot of Cangshan Mountain facing to the Erhai Lake. Three Pagodas are made of three ancient independent pagodas forming a symmetrical triangle.
After visit, directly transfer to the airport or train station, see off.

PS: The part of the area we will visit has not been well developed like Beijing and Shanghai. While it is good to enjoy the well-protected nature view and experience unique primitive fork customs and the food is not so delicate and various.
Please Note: While we plan to follow the itinerary as much as possible, weather, trail conditions, river crossings, and other circumstances may force us to alter the itinerary in this remote and relatively untraveled region.
The tour cost includes
- Local transportation: A private vehicle will accompany us for the entire tour if accessary. While we are trekking, our vehicle will transfer our food and luggage to the appointed site or hostel and wait or meet us at the end of the trekking tour if accessary.
- Equipment as required: water (4 liters per person per day), 2-way radios, compass, first aid kit, GPS, camp equipment.
- Leader: Experienced English-speaking tour leader and one or more service persons along the trip as needed.
- Entrance fees: All first-entrance tickets to the tourist spots mentioned in the itinerary.
- Accommodation: Nice hotel in Lijiang, Shangri-La, simple homestay in small villages.
- Meals: All meals as indicated in the itinerary, with some simple picnic lunches while trekking.
- Extra supplier of staff (only needed when the area we will trek to is non-residential and not accessible for any vehicles): porter to carry food and all supporting equipments)
- Common carrier tickets: All domestic airfares and train ticket as listed in the itinerary, if applicable
- Travel agency liability insurance.
The tour cost does not include
- Personal gear required: if camping, a sleeping bag sufficiently warm to protect against minus 20°C (-4°F) in Jan-March, against -10°C or -5°C (14°F- 23°F) in April and May, against 0-5°C (32°-41°F) in June. Also: hiking boots; It may different from the area, we will provide you the exact information when you confirm a tour. Raincoat; cap; camera; sun-cream; sun-glasses; pocket knife; day-pack, etc.
- Expenses of a personal nature: favorite snacks, soft drinks, laundry , local or long-distance calls, etc.
- Tips to tour guide and driver, and other service staff like cook, horsemen(recommended £ 8-10/guest/day ).
- Tourist accident insurance. NB - you are strongly suggested to buy travel and health insurance before you start out from your home country.
- Any service persons to carry personal belonging while trekking (although this can be arranged, it should be unnecessary - participants should find that trekking with a single day-pack for personal items should suffice.)
- Single supplement costs (for those who want accommodation on a single basis)

- As the exchange rate of CNY to USD is subject to Change, the final price will be calculated according to the Chinese currency CNY. We will alternate the price in USD according to the exchange rate when you pay.
- The train and flight schedule is taken according to present time table, they are subject to change according to the new schedule, we reserve the right to choose the flights.
- The detailed horseback riding notes will be provided after you confirm the trip.
- Reservation should be made at least one month before departure time.
- We reserve the right to alternate the visiting order of the scenic spots in the itinerary according to the weather condition and other unforeseen things.
- The part of the area we will visit has not been well developed like Beijing and Shanghai. While it is good to enjoy the well protected nature view and experience unique primitive fork customs, we should prepare for that even the star hotel is not so good and though we will try our best, the food may not be so delicate and various.
- This part of the grassland is the most beautiful one in China, but some of the places on the way are scattered with small stone or block where you are not supposed to run the horse, while there are wetland area where it is easy to get stuck in. It is very important to follow the local horseman's direction. To ensure the safety of the whole group, the horseman has the right to decide where to walk and where to run. All the participants are not allowed to leave the group without the accompany of the horseman.
- When you sign up for the riding tour, you acknowledge that there are risks involved in horse riding and confirm that you are fully aware of and accept these risks. You are strongly advised for your own safety to wear a hard hat (helmet) whilst in the vicinity of horses. You may or may not are required to sign a separate acknowledgement and acceptance of personal liability by the local supplier before being allowed to ride, and if you are not allowed to ride because you refuse to sign, you will have no claim against CAT or the supplier and will not be entitled to any refund or compensation.
- Tourist insurance is a must for the horse-riding tour, it is your own liability to make sure your insurance do cover this kind of horse-riding trip. Please provide us the confirmation of insurance company at least one week before the departure. If you are not allowed to take the tour because you couldn't provide the insurance covering the horse riding tour when the tour starts, there will be no refund or compensation for that.
